Weekly Makeup Basket weeks 46 and 47!

Last Sunday I launched a new feature on my Youtube channel: Weekly Makeup Basket.

The idea behind this is that I each Sunday take out all the makeup I will be using throughout the following work week. The reason for this is that I want to make sure I use ALL my makeup items, not just the newly purchased ones.. I am also horribly tired in the mornings before work, so this actually simplifies things tremendously!

Not all items in these videos will be cruelty free, obviously, since I am using items from my entire collection!

Below are the first two weekly videos:

In the latest video I forgot to mention the cruelty free status of some of the brands. Bourjois are as far as I know not cruelty free. Boots no 7 are cruelty free as are essence.

NARS primer review + blazing fast internet!

Hey!

I am back with a vengeance after some internet issues! I now have a new internet provider, presenting FIBER at a boggling speed of 100/100!

Yesterday I uploaded a review for the NARS Radiance Enhancing Pro Prime Light Optimizing Primer. It has become my absolute holy grail primer. AMAZING for my dry skin!

Check it out on my youtube channel!

This video was extra exciting to upload, not only for the product rave, but also because I was curious to see how long it would take with my new internet speed! Previously this video would have taken around 2 hours to upload.

Now it took 3 minutes and 52 seconds... !! I timed it and here is the screenshot of the time:

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

OS X Yosemite - a few tweaks!

I have now been using the latest installment of Apple's OS X Yosemite for a few days and I have made a few tweaks to it that I thought I'd share with you all!

My overall impression is that Yosemite is extremely slick and has a very well put together look.
Some elements are unfortunately not "good enough" for me though. Some elements give me the impression of not being quite finished.

Issue one: The Menubar.
The new Yosemite menubar is semi transparent and it's completely flat looking.  The light theme gives the menubar a discreet drop shadow, while the dark theme completely lacks a drop shadow!

Let me illustrate!

Light theme menubar:

The light theme menubar is as I said semi transparent. It has a white base color and it will take a tinge of the color of the desktop wallpaper as you can see in the picture above. This look is "ok" but it's not good. It's not as clean and polished as I expect from Apple. So I decided to fix that.. :)

Now.. my "fix" is a really ugly hack and it involves a bit of work in a graphics editor (I used GIMP) but it's very straight forward. What I did was I took advantage of the fact that the menubar is transparent and simply edited the wallpaper itself. I added a few gradients up on the top which - with the semi transparent menubar - slightly "shines" through the menubar and gives it a new look.

Like so:

The same modified wallpaper works just as well when using the dark theme of course!

First the original dark menubar which completely lacks drop shadow, it is just a black flat line basically..:

.. and this is how it looks with my modified wallpaper. Note that it's not pitch black anymore, this is because it's semi transparent and my modified wallpaper shows through slightly! Also note the gorgeous drop shadow:

NICE HUH!! :)

Issue two: The Dock.

The new dock is flat. It's ... flat. I'm sorry but this is not very slick and pleasing to the eyes. Not in my opinion.. I know a lot of people love this new look, but I don't.

This is what it looks like:

Now... there is a tool that you can download and install which enables you to quickly change the appearance of the dock, this tool also gives you the option of creating your own custom dock looks!
The tool is called cDock and can be dowloaded here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdock/

I installed it and enabled the old, Mavericks style, dock. Took less than a minute:

I hope you found this post helpful! Let me know if you have any specific suggestions or requests on what I should post in the new Tech section!
